Bookworm

I love books.  I remember learning to read as a child and just immersing myself in the most amazing stories.  While I wasn't the most imaginative person in my childhood when it came to creative play, I could allow my imagination to drift while reading a good book.  If I was feeling a little sad, tired, or bored, all I had to do was pick up a book and let the story take me on a little adventure.  Reading is often, still, where I go to find comfort.  If I've had a long day, I will grab my book and curl up on the couch.  I always have a book in my handbag.

So, it delights me that Oliver really enjoys reading books.  I wouldn't say he approaches books with the same, dare I say, obsession that I showed for reading when I was little.  But, he enjoys stories.  Recently, he moved up to chapter books.  This is the first chapter book he's read.  I taught him how to dog ear the page he leaves off on and when I went upstairs to shut off his lamp the other night, I saw the book next to him and he had left off at a new chapter.  I knew because I saw that sweet little dog ear in the corner of the page.

I know that books won't define him because he has so many other interests, but it makes me happy that it is something he enjoys and as he enters kindergarten, the books he is exposed to will be even more diverse and engaging.

A Day at the Farm

It was a beautiful day at the farm...we had fun hiking, eating lunch, and just enjoying the weekend.

But, no visit would be complete without some humor...or at least what Oliver interprets to be humor.
What can I say, he tries and I love him for that!

Gloucester Maritime Museum

Last week, the kids and I headed to Gloucester for a children's program at the Maritime Museum.  Our morning was spent learning about hermit crabs, doing a craft, hearing a story, and exploring the touch tanks.
